Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the “Zero Accident Day” campaign in Keonjhar, marking a major step toward improving road safety across Odisha.

Organized by the Commerce and Transport Department, the initiative aims to raise awareness and foster a culture of responsible driving, with the ultimate goal of making the state accident-free.

During the launch event, the Chief Minister flagged off road safety awareness drives across all 13 blocks of Keonjhar district and inaugurated a “Zero Accident Selfie Point” to engage the public. He also distributed educational materials and honored road safety advocates for their contributions.

Addressing the media, CM Majhi emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility, especially in mining-affected regions like Keonjhar, where heavy vehicle traffic poses serious risks. He urged citizens to follow traffic rules and remain vigilant, stating that the campaign reflects the government’s commitment to reducing accidents through awareness and enforcement.

The event was attended by key dignitaries including Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sujit Kumar, Keonjhar MP Shri Ananta Nayak, and several MLAs. Senior officials such as DGP Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, STA Commissioner Shri Amitabh Thakur, DIG Shri Brijesh Ray, and District Collector Shri Vishal Singh were also present.

Keonjhar becomes the first district in Odisha to adopt the “Zero Accident Day” initiative following its successful rollout in Bhubaneswar. With technical support from IIT Madras, a 14-day program has been launched to guide accident prevention strategies and promote road safety education.
