A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, raising the likelihood of heavy rainfall across southern Odisha in the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system developed under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation located off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.
The IMD reported that the cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southward with height. The low pressure is expected to move west-northwestwards, affecting regions in south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh, and south Chhattisgarh over the next 48 hours.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert, as the system may trigger localized flooding, disruption of transport, and agricultural impact. District administrations are preparing for emergency response measures, especially in low-lying and coastal zones.
This development comes amid seasonal transitions, and meteorologists are closely monitoring the system’s trajectory and intensity.
