At least 15 passengers were injured, including two critically, when an Ama Bus collided with a stationary tanker near Chhatilagada under Tangi police limits in Choudwar early Tuesday morning.

The bus, part of Odisha’s state-run urban transport network, was traveling along National Highway 16 en route to Cuttack City when it rammed into the parked tanker.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was speeding above its mandated 40 km/h limit, and the driver failed to steer away in time. The impact shattered the front bumper and windshields, with broken glass injuring several passengers seated near the windows.

Local residents and police quickly responded, evacuating the injured and transporting them to Tangi Community Health Centre and nearby private hospitals. Two passengers with serious injuries were later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for specialized care. The remaining passengers are reported to be stable.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, including possible driver negligence or technical failure. The vehicle has been seized for inspection, and statements from passengers and the driver are being recorded.

This marks the second major Ama Bus incident in a month, raising concerns over safety protocols and driver training within the public transport system.
