The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced significant changes to the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam 2025, aiming to improve accessibility and reduce logistical stress for candidates.
The exam, now rescheduled for September, will be conducted in a single shift and candidates will be allotted centers within a 100-kilometer radius of their preferred location.
SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan confirmed the updates in a recent interview, citing feedback from candidates who faced difficulties during the Phase 13 exam held between July 24 and August 1. The Commission has already re-conducted the exam for affected candidates on August 29.
In a bid to enhance fairness and convenience, SSC revealed that 80% of candidates have already received centers of their choice, and the target is to raise that figure to 90% in future exams. The exam will continue to be held in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, with no plans to revert to pen-and-paper formats due to concerns over security and efficiency.
With over 2 crore candidates appearing for SSC exams annually, and 60 lakh participating in major exams, these reforms are expected to streamline operations and improve candidate satisfaction. The Commission also reiterated its commitment to timely result announcements and transparent recruitment processes.
