A devastating hit-and-run incident on August 9, 2025, near V2, Patrapada, under the Khandagiri Police Station jurisdiction, claimed the lives of a woman and her 8-year-old daughter, leaving a 2-year-old boy and the family in grief. Based on a written complaint by Manas Raul, the Khandagiri Police registered a case (No. 552, dated 10.08.2025) under sections 106(1)/125(a)/125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), later amended to include section 105 BNS, and launched a thorough investigation.
On the evening of August 9, Manas Raul’s wife, along with their 8-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son, was crossing the road near V2, Patrapada, when a Thar vehicle, speeding recklessly from Bhubaneswar towards Khordha, struck them. The collision resulted in the immediate death of the young girl at the scene. The mother and son, critically injured, were rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment. Tragically, the mother succumbed to her injuries on August 11, 2025.
The Thar vehicle, which dragged the victims for some distance before fleeing, was later seized by the police. Investigations revealed that five individuals, travelling in two vehicles—a Thar and a Scorpio—were driving recklessly from Patia towards Khordha. Based on credible leads, the police arrested two suspects, Ankit Saw and Krishna Chandra Pradhan, on August 15, 2025, for their involvement and for allegedly aiding the escape of others. Both were forwarded to court.
Fearing arrest, the remaining suspects fled to West Bengal, Haryana, and Delhi. However, through meticulous investigation and a tip-off, Khandagiri Police apprehended two more accused—Sohamraj Tripathy alias Lipun (27) and Sanu alias Rohan Ranjan Rout (25)—from Delhi. The Scorpio vehicle involved was also seized. Both confessed to their roles in the incident during interrogation.
The accused, identified as Sanu, son of Niranjan Rout from Patia, Bhubaneswar, and Lipun, son of Lingaraj Tripathy from Srirampur, Jagatsinghpur, are now in custody. The investigation remains ongoing to uncover further details and ensure justice for the victims.
