The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, has announced a revision of the Plus Two syllabus effective from the 2025–26 academic session.

The update introduces dedicated units on Environmental Education and Value Education, to be integrated into the compulsory English and MIL (Mother Tongue) subjects, respectively.

According to the official notification, students will now explore environmental concerns through English literature and engage with ethical, cultural, and social values via MIL texts. These additions aim to foster sustainability awareness and responsible citizenship among higher secondary students.

The revised syllabus will be reflected in the 2026 board examinations, with question papers including components that assess students’ understanding of these new themes. The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy’s emphasis on character-building and interdisciplinary learning.

This reform is part of a broader educational overhaul in Odisha. In a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state approved the merger of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and CHSE into a unified board. Additional measures include free textbooks for all Class IX and X students and the deployment of B.Ed-qualified special educators across school clusters.

Education officials believe these steps will strengthen Odisha’s academic infrastructure and better prepare students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.
