The Odisha government has announced that all schoolchildren—irrespective of caste or category—will now receive free textbooks.
Previously, this benefit was limited to students from the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST).
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond shared that the initiative aims to ensure equitable access to learning resources for every child in the state. “Education should be a right, not a privilege. This move will help bridge gaps and empower students from all backgrounds,” he stated.
Additionally, students commuting to school can now avail free travel under the Mukhyamantri Bus Seva. To access this benefit, students must wear their school uniform and carry a valid school ID card. This provision is expected to ease transportation challenges, especially in rural and remote areas.
The dual announcement marks a significant stride in Odisha’s commitment to universal education and student welfare.
