A tragic incident of violence shook Ramgiri village, Medical Road, under Sheragada police limits of Ganjam district, where a man was stabbed to death by his neighbour on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Nilanchal Mishra (61). According to reports, the incident began when Nilanchal’s son, Alok Mishra, was called by a tenant of Ranjan Panda to help start a vehicle. After Alok returned, accused Ranjan Kumar Panda confronted him, asking why he had come to his premises, and attempted to assault him.
As the situation escalated, Nilanchal Mishra intervened to protect his son. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly rushed into his house, brought out a knife, and stabbed Nilanchal in the chest.
Family members rushed the victim to the Sheragada Community Health Centre, but due to his critical condition, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family. Acting on a complaint filed by Nilanchal’s elder brother Patitapaban Mishra, the Sheragada Police registered a case (No. 348/25) and have detained the accused, confirmed IIC Birendra Sial, who stated that further investigation is underway.
