The Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, today convicted Subash Chandra Nayak, Former Head Master-cum-Secretary of Rangapaju UP School under Tumudibandha Block, Kandhamal district, for misappropriation of government funds earmarked for classroom construction.
Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Nayak under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 409 of the IPC. The investigation revealed that Nayak had diverted funds meant for infrastructure development, betraying public trust and violating financial norms.
Following the conviction, Nayak has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for four years and fined Rs 50,000. He was immediately taken into judicial custody to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance has announced its intent to move the competent authority for Nayak’s dismissal from service. Notably, after committing the offence, Nayak had absconded from the school, further aggravating the breach of duty.
This conviction underscores the state’s commitment to institutional accountability and transparency in public service.
