In a major stride toward digital safety, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has activated a network-level anti-smishing and anti-spam system across its mobile network.
The new protection mechanism automatically detects and blocks suspicious URLs embedded in SMS messages—before they reach users—ensuring a safer mobile experience without requiring any user intervention.
Developed in partnership with Tanla, a leading Indian cloud communications firm, the system leverages artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and blockchain-backed DLT frameworks to score and filter messages in real time. The rollout follows a successful preview at India Mobile Congress 2024 and is now live across BSNL circles.
The technology identifies over 1.5 million scam attempts daily, flags 35,000+ fraudulent links, and neutralizes 60,000 scam numbers monthly. With over 99% efficacy against smishing attacks, BSNL’s initiative marks a significant leap in protecting users from phishing, credential theft, and payment fraud.
BSNL subscribers are automatically protected—no app installation or settings change required. Legitimate messages such as OTPs, banking alerts, and government notifications continue to be delivered under TRAI’s DLT/UCC framework.
