New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism regarding the non-implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in Delhi. PM Modi expressed disappointment over the lack of free healthcare for the elderly in Delhi and West Bengal, attributing it to political interests.
Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi apologized to the elderly in these states, stating that their governments’ decisions have hindered their access to healthcare. He emphasized the missed opportunity to serve senior citizens through the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
In a robust reply, Kejriwal defended the Delhi government’s healthcare model, which provides free medical treatment to all residents, regardless of the cost.
He criticized PM Modi for politicizing public health issues and urged him to study and adopt the Delhi model nationwide for better public health outcomes. Kejriwal highlighted the irregularities found in the Ayushman Bharat scheme and questioned its effectiveness, contrasting it with the comprehensive coverage offered by Delhi’s health programs.
