New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has proposed the name of Delhi Minister Atishi as his successor. This announcement was made during an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislative party meeting held earlier today.
Arvind Kejriwal, who has been at the helm of Delhi’s administration for nearly a decade, is set to resign later today. The decision comes amid ongoing legal challenges and a corruption case related to the Delhi Excise Policy scam. Kejriwal stated that he would not resume the Chief Minister’s post until the people of Delhi declare him honest.
Atishi, a prominent leader within AAP, has been a key figure in the party’s education and public policy initiatives. Her nomination as the next Chief Minister is seen as a strategic move to maintain stability and continuity within the party and the Delhi government.
Speaking at the meeting, Kejriwal expressed confidence in Atishi’s leadership abilities. “Atishi has been a dedicated and effective leader, and I am confident that she will continue to serve the people of Delhi with the same commitment and integrity,” he said.
Atishi, in her address, thanked Kejriwal and the party for their trust and support. “I am honored by this responsibility and will work tirelessly to uphold the values and vision of our party. Together, we will continue to build a better Delhi,” she remarked.
The transition comes at a critical time for AAP, as the party faces internal surveys showing a trust deficit among voters. Kejriwal’s resignation and Atishi’s nomination are seen as efforts to rebuild public trust and strengthen the party’s position ahead of the upcoming elections.
The formal handover of responsibilities is expected to take place later today, following Kejriwal’s meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. As Delhi prepares for this leadership change, all eyes will be on Atishi as she steps into her new role as Chief Minister.
