Dhanush Slams AI-Altered ‘Raanjhanaa’ Ending: “It’s Stripped the Film of Its Soul”

Actor Dhanush has voiced strong disapproval over the recent AI-altered re-release of his 2013 hit Raanjhanaa, in which the original tragic climax — where his character Kundan dies — was changed to show him surviving.

The modified ending has split audiences, with some welcoming the change and others calling it a betrayal of the original film.

In an official statement, Dhanush said,

“The re-release of Raanjhanaa with an AI-altered climax has completely disturbed me. This alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul. The concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection.”

He warned that the use of AI to alter existing films sets a “deeply concerning precedent” for cinema, threatening the integrity of storytelling. The actor urged for “stricter regulations” to prevent such practices.

Director Aanand L. Rai had earlier expressed similar disappointment. While some fans echoed Dhanush’s sentiment — calling the original ending the emotional backbone of the film — others dismissed his outrage, saying it was “just an alternate cut” and that the original remains untouched.

The debate highlights a growing concern in the film industry over the use of AI in altering creative works without the creators’ consent.
