IND vs SL 3rd T20I: The new era for Team India, led by Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir, commenced with a 3-0 series victory. India clinched a dramatic win over Sri Lanka in the Super Over, with captain SKY sealing the deal in style in Pallekele on Tuesday (July 30). Sri Lanka, chasing India’s score of 137/9 and needing 30 runs from 30 balls at one stage, ended their innings at 137/8 in 20 overs, resulting in a tie and leading to a Super Over.
India dominated the Super Over, with Sri Lanka dismissed for just 2 runs, setting a simple target of three runs for victory, which India achieved with ease.
Batting first, India rallied from 48/5 to post 137/9 in 20 overs. Opener Jaiswal began well but fell to Theekshana after a few boundaries, and captain Suryakumar Yadav was sent back for 8 runs while trying for a big hit.
During this phase, India also lost Samson and Rinku for 0 and 1, respectively, with Samson registering his second consecutive duck. The team was in dire straits at 30/4 during the powerplay.
Shivam Dube, the hard-hitting all-rounder, was out for 13, but Shubman Gill (39) and Riyan Parag (26) stitched together a vital fifty-run stand to stabilize India’s innings. However, both were dismissed by Hasaranga in the same over. Washington Sundar’s quickfire 25 off 18 balls helped India edge closer to a defendable total.
For Sri Lanka, newcomer Wickramasinghe bowled a commendable 4-over spell, taking 1 for 17. Pathirana, after a diving stop, was injured and had to exit the field post the 7th over, not bowling again. Consequently, Sri Lanka had to rely heavily on spin, utilizing 14 overs of it on a pitch that was significantly aiding spinners.
