New Delhi: A major outage hit several IT systems across the world, including India and other countries like Australia, Germany and other countries on Friday, affecting many critical services.
The outage is possibly due to the failure of CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity platform that provides cybersecurity solutions for Microsoft Windows.
In Australia, the outage affected disrupted banks, telecoms, media outlets and airlines. A”large-scale technical outage affecting several companies and services across Australia this afternoon, “Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator said.
Emergency 911 services were disrupted in many parts of the United States, and non-emergency call centres were also not working due to the outage.
All flights from several major US airlines – including Delta, United and American Airlines – were grounded on Friday morning (July 19), according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Earlier on Thursday, Frontier said its systems had been impacted by the outage, and offered refunds to inconvenienced passengers.
Other competitors including Allegiant and SunCountry also said they were having difficulties, including with their booking, check-in and trip-managing functions online.
