Uttarakhand: A person was killed and several others were injured after came under a cascade of rocks and boulders falling from the hills above on the Gangotri Highway in Uttarkashi. The incident took place near Dabrani on the Char Dham Yatra route on Friday.
The Uttarakhand police reported that a rockfall occurred suddenly on a highway, trapping many vehicles under the debris and burying several people.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), NDRF, and police have been deployed to the accident site to conduct rescue operations. As a precautionary measure, the police have halted traffic on the route.
“On receiving information about a stone falling from a hill near Dabrani on Gangotri National Highway and some people being buried under it, Police, SDRF, NDRF teams are present on the spot, and rescue work is underway. Vehicles have been stopped for security reasons. Vehicles will be released after the route is completely safe.”, the Uttarakhand Police posted on X.
