A case of dangerous drunk driving shocked residents of Rourkela on Wednesday after a speeding truck ploughed through multiple vehicles near Beldihi Chhak and Vedvyas Temple, injuring a motorcyclist and causing major damage.
The dramatic incident, caught on a mobile camera, shows the truck veering out of control before smashing into two cars and a motorcycle in quick succession. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was speeding recklessly and seemed to have lost control moments before the crash.
Prompt intervention by residents helped stop the truck, and the driver was handed over to police. According to DSP Amarendra Sandha, initial findings confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
“A patrolling team was already on alert following a tip-off about the truck coming from Sundargarh. During the chase, it collided with vehicles and injured a scooter rider. The driver, found drunk, has been detained and the truck seized,” the DSP said.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Authorities have reiterated appeals for stricter adherence to road safety norms and warned of strict action against intoxicated driving.
