The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather alert for Odisha, forecasting intense rainfall across multiple districts from July 23 to 26.

A low-pressure system is expected to develop over the North Bay of Bengal on July 24, potentially triggering widespread showers throughout the state.

According to IMD sources, districts including Cuttack and Nayagarh have been placed under orange warning for July 23, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall. Other districts likely to be impacted on the same day include Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Khordha, and Boudh.

On July 24, heavier rain is forecasted for northern districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh. Meanwhile, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jajpur are expected to witness consistent rain showers.

The IMD’s regional office warns that the spell may continue through July 25, affecting western districts including Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur, as well as central regions such as Sonepur, Boudh, and Balangir.

Citizens are advised to remain vigilant, especially in areas under orange alert, and follow updates from local authorities. Monday’s preliminary data recorded 15.2 mm of rainfall in Cuttack and 9.5 mm in Bhubaneswar, giving a glimpse into the evolving weather pattern
