The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a fresh spell of intense monsoon activity across Odisha as a low-pressure area is expected to form over Gangetic West Bengal and its surrounding regions within the next 24 hours.
With the monsoon system strengthening, several districts in Odisha are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. The IMD has issued an Orange Warning for parts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, and Mayurbhanj over the next two days, signalling the likelihood of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning remains in effect for a wider range of districts, including Sambalpur, Bargarh, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Angul, and Koraput through July 9.
Authorities are keeping close watch on low-lying and vulnerable regions to avoid waterlogging and landslide incidents, even as government officials assert that there is currently no flood threat. All major rivers are reported to be flowing below the danger mark.
Meteorologists continue to monitor the evolving system as Odisha navigates another wave of active monsoon conditions. Citizens have been advised to stay alert and follow local weather bulletins for updates.
