Bhubaneswar: A special vigilance convicted a retired headmistress and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years in a corruption.
The court also asked Basanti Devi, former headmistress of UGUP School at Bada Nuagaon in Jatani of Khurdha to pay a fine of Rs 5,000. In case of default, she would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of three months.
The Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and payment of fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Basanti Devi was charge-sheeted by vigilance in bribery case.
She was arrested for accepting bribe from President of a SHG for preparation of their bill and submission of the same to the Block authority towards supply of materials for MDM( Mid-Day Mills) program in the School and withdrawl of payment.
The Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Basanti Devi following her conviction.
