Puri: Despite direction from the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to Dattamohapatra Nijog, the Banakalagi ritual was not conducted in Puri Srimandir on Wednesday.
Since Niladri Bije, the Banakalagi ritual of the Lord Jagannath has not been conducted. Yesterday, the Srimandir administration directed the Dattamohapatra Nijog to perform the Banakalagi ritual and also warned of strict disciplinary action in case of non-compliance.
According to reports, the Dattamahapatra servitors have been urging the SJTA to consider their demand for the conduct of the Banakalagi ritual of Lord Jagannath on Thursday. But, the SJTA is adamant that the Banakalagi ritual is held on Wednesday as other rituals of the Holy Trinity are held on Thursday.
However, according to the management committee’s decision taken in 2018, Wednesday has been fixed for the Banakalagi ritual of Lord Jagannath. But, today again the ritual was not held due to the deadlock between the Dattamohapatra Nijog and the SJTA.
On the other hand, Dattamohapatra Nijog servitors informed that they received a letter from the administration last night to hold the Banakalagi ritual on Wednesday following which preparations could not be made for the same.
