Rekha Gupta, a BJP leader, took office as the Chief Minister of Delhi today, marking a significant milestone as the first BJP chief minister in the capital in nearly three decades.

The grand swearing-in ceremony was held at the iconic Ramlila Maidan, attended by prominent figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and key leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Rekha Gupta, a first-time legislator who won the Shalimar Bagh assembly seat, was administered the oath of office by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. Among the distinguished attendees were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister and BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda, and other top leaders from BJP-led states and allies.

Joining Gupta in the new cabinet are six BJP MLAs, who also took their oaths as ministers: Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Pankaj Kumar Singh, and Ravinder Indraj Singh. Gupta’s elevation as Chief Minister makes her the fourth woman to hold this position in Delhi, following leaders from both the BJP and Congress.

In the recent assembly elections, the BJP secured 48 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22 seats, and Congress failed to win any seats for the third consecutive election. Rekha Gupta’s leadership marks a new era for Delhi’s political landscape.
