Odisha has launched a statewide diarrhoea prevention drive, which will continue until July 31, aiming to curb the disease through proactive health measures.
Dr. Sanjukta Sahoo, Director of Family Welfare, has announced the initiative to ensure accessible treatment for affected communities.
As part of the campaign, health authorities have distributed ORS and zinc supplements to healthcare centres across the state, ensuring timely relief to those suffering. The urgency of this intervention is underscored by recent reports from Jajpur district, where a cholera infection has been confirmed in a deceased patient’s sample.
Officials have identified the highly virulent Vibrio cholera strain, prompting immediate containment measures and heightened surveillance to prevent further spread. The Odisha government urges citizens to adopt safe hygiene practices and seek medical assistance for early symptoms.
This diarrhoea prevention effort reflects a broader public health commitment to minimising waterborne diseases and safeguarding communities across the region.
