Puri: A father and son drowned while taking a bath in the Sector 13 of Puri sea beach on Wednesday.
According to sources, five persons of a family hailing from Howrah in West Bengal were taking a bath in the sea when the mishap took place.
While three of them were rescued safely, the father-son duo drowned. The deceased were identified as Ranjan Das (50) and his son Rushav Das (16).
Sources said the tourists were swimming in sector number 13 of the sea beach and allegedly ignored repeated warnings from the lifeguards.
First, the father-son was pulled away by high tides in the sea. As a result, they failed to return to the shore and drowned. Lifeguards pulled their lifeless bodies from the sea. Another, Sunit Shekhar Mahat fortunately survived after being rescued by lifeguards in time. He was then admitted to Puri DHH.
Sea Beach police station has registered a case of unnatural death and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
