In a deadly attack ahead of the CPI (Maoist) Bharat Bandh on June 10, a pressure-activated improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists detonated in Sukma district, killing Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Giripunje and injuring two other officers.

The blast occurred near Dondra village on the Konta–Errabore road while security personnel were conducting a patrol. The explosion, triggered by an underground device, resulted in fatal injuries to ASP Giripunje and left two other officers critically wounded. They were rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

Authorities have condemned the attack, reaffirming their commitment to counter-insurgency operations in the Bastar region, a known hotspot for Maoist activity. Security forces remain on high alert, with intensified patrolling and surveillance measures in place to prevent further incidents.

This incident marks yet another strike by insurgents, escalating tensions in Chhattisgarh as the Maoist group prepares for its nationwide shutdown. The attack has raised concerns over safety in conflict-prone areas, prompting calls for stronger security measures in affected districts.
