Washington: Saudi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) may face sanction for his involvement in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The US lawmaker Ilhan Omar said a bill was introduced to sanction Saudi’s Crown after a US report implicated MBS of approving the killing of Khashoggi.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) prepared by US spy agencies blamed MBS for planning the 2018 operation that killed Khashoggi, a Saudi citizen and resident of the US, in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, said in a statement that the US truly supports freedom of expression, democracy and human rights, there is no reason not to sanction Mohammed bin Salman, a man responsible for the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
US President Joe Biden and the State Department have declined to punish MBS saying Washington will  “recalibrate” and not “rupture” the US-Saudi relationship.
Worthwhile to mention that Khashoggi, a vocal critic of the Saudi regime, was killed on October 2, 2018, in Turkey where he had gone to obtain paperwork certifying his divorce from his former wife Alaa Nassif in order to be able to marry his Turkish fiancee Hatice Cengiz.
His killing had brought international outrage and battered the reputation of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Salman.
