Authorities in Jharkhand and Odisha, in collaboration with CRPF and COBRA, have successfully recovered 2.5 tonnes of explosives looted by Maoists near the Jharkhand-Odisha border.
The recovery, which took place on May 27, 2025, marks a significant victory in the ongoing fight against Maoist insurgency.
The operation, carried out by elite forces including Jharkhand’s Jaguar unit and Odisha’s Special Operation Group (SOG), led to the retrieval of gelatin sticks and other explosive materials that were stolen from the K Balang area of Sundergarh district. Security personnel found the explosives buried underground in the dense Saranda forest, hidden beneath rocks.
Officials report that this breakthrough follows an earlier gun battle between forces and Maoist rebels. The Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania has confirmed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to further probe the incident.
With this recovery, security agencies continue their intensified operations against Maoist activities in the region.
