The half-burnt body of Odisha forester Sishir Sahu was discovered inside his residence in Baramasidanda, Nayagarh, late Saturday night.

Authorities are probing the possibility of foul play, raising serious concerns about a pre-planned murder.

Eyewitnesses reported that a sudden blaze erupted from the house while Sahu’s wife and son were present. His partially burnt remains were found on the bedroom bed. His wife, who sustained minor burns, was hospitalised, while their son escaped unharmed.

Adding to the intrigue, an earlier case in the same forest range under Sahu’s jurisdiction involved a burnt body discovered with a bullet wound. Allegations suggest a hush-money settlement with hunters and forest officials. With Sahu now dead under similar circumstances, speculation is rife about pressure from senior officials and the possible connection between the two deaths.

Meanwhile, the victim’s elder brother has alleged that this was a premeditated murder. These allegations arise from suspicions of an extramarital affair, with claims that Sahu’s wife may have set him on fire.

Authorities are currently investigating these accusations, and forensic experts are examining the crime scene. As the inquiries continue, there are still questions regarding whether this incident involves murder or suicide.

The police are looking into whether the blaze was a case of self-immolation or deliberate arson. Both Sahu’s wife and son are in custody for questioning. Authorities have assured the public that all angles will be explored to uncover the truth.
