As a precaution against the looming heat wave, the Odisha Government has issued directives for higher education institutions, including universities and degree colleges, to conduct classes and exams exclusively during morning hours. This decision aims to protect students from the adverse effects of high temperatures predicted this summer.

In a letter addressed to both public and private universities as well as degree colleges across the state, the Higher Education Department emphasized the need for rescheduling classes and examinations to the cooler morning hours. It also recommended restricting outdoor activities to afternoon sessions.

Also, the institutions have been instructed to ensure the availability of drinking water and Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS). Institutions are urged to maintain functional tube wells and pumps and repair them where necessary. Provisions for first aid must also be available in colleges and examination centres to address any heat-related emergencies.

This apart, the department has called on the heads of institutions to educate students about heat wave precautions. A squad will be formed by the Higher Education Department to oversee and enforce the implementation of these measures to ensure student safety during the heat wave.
