Tejaswin Shankar etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian to win two medals in the decathlon at the Asian Athletics Championships.
The national record-holder secured silver with 7,618 points, adding to his bronze from the 2023 edition.
In a nail-biting finish, Tejaswin entered the final 1500m event in third place but surged ahead with a time of 4:37.99, earning 693 points to claim silver. His podium finish contributed to India’s growing medal tally at the championships.
China’s Fei Xiang clinched gold with 7,634 points, while Japan’s Keisuke Okuda took bronze with 7,602 points. The event underscored the rising dominance of Indian athletes on the continental stage.
