Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s unannounced visit to the Delhi University North Campus on Thursday drew criticism from the university administration, which termed the event a breach of protocol and a disruption to student governance.

Gandhi visited the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) office to interact with students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), discussing issues of representation and academic equality. The session lasted nearly an hour.

In a formal statement, Delhi University condemned the visit, alleging that Gandhi’s presence—secured by a security cordon—disrupted access to the DUSU office, even barring the DUSU Secretary and others from entry. The university also accused members of NSUI (Congress’s student wing) of misconduct and warned of disciplinary action against those involved.

However, DUSU President Ronak Khatri, aligned with the NSUI, dismissed the allegations, stating that there was no rule requiring prior permission for inviting a guest to the student office, especially for a private interaction. Khatri labeled the university’s response “factually incorrect and politically motivated,” and accused the administration of overreach.
