The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a Red Nowcast Warning for Kandhamal district, predicting severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and surface winds reaching up to 70 kmph within the next two hours.
Affected residents have been advised to seek shelter immediately and suspend outdoor activities, including farming operations.
In addition, an Orange Nowcast Warning has been announced for Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Khurda districts, anticipating moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds between 50-60 kmph within the next two to three hours. Minor damage to banana trees, unsecured structures, and standing crops is expected. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert and be prepared to move to safer locations.
The severe weather could lead to waterlogging, power disruptions, and damage to agricultural fields. Residents are advised to avoid sheltering under trees and remain indoors until the storms subside.
