The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, which was temporarily halted due to India-Pakistan tensions, is now set to resume on May 17 with updated player replacement rules.

Several players have withdrawn due to scheduling conflicts caused by the delayed restart, prompting the league to introduce a special provision allowing franchises to sign temporary replacements.

Previously, IPL regulations only allowed injury or illness replacements up to the 12th match. However, given the unprecedented circumstances, teams can now recruit temporary players for various reasons. While this move provides flexibility to franchises, replacement players will not be eligible for retention in the next IPL season. Instead, they must enter the IPL 2026 Player Auction if they wish to continue playing in the league.

Among the key withdrawals are Jake Fraser-McGurk from Delhi Capitals and Jamie Overton from Chennai Super Kings, both of whom were unable to align their schedules with the newly announced IPL fixtures. This regulatory shift is expected to impact team compositions significantly, requiring strategic decisions on player recruitment for the remainder of the season.

As IPL 2025 gears up for its return, franchises and fans alike will be closely watching how teams adjust to these revised replacement rules. Stay tuned for further updates as the tournament unfolds.
