No Dancing Girls, No DJ: Sunil Gavaskar Urges BCCI to Hold IPL 2025 Quietly

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to conduct the remaining matches of IPL 2025 in a sombre and respectful manner.

His request comes in light of the recent attacks by Pakistan, which have left several Indian families mourning the loss of their loved ones.

With IPL 2025 resuming on May 17, Gavaskar has urged that the tournament continue without loud music, DJs, or cheerleading performances, emphasising that the focus should solely be on the sport. “These are the last few matches of the tournament, and given the recent tragic events, I sincerely hope that we eliminate unnecessary entertainment and let cricket take centre stage,” he said.

The veteran cricketer believes that this approach would honour the sentiments of grieving families while allowing fans to experience the remaining games in a more meaningful way. IPL 2025 was briefly suspended after Pakistan’s attacks on northern India disrupted Match 58 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala. The match has now been rescheduled for May 24 in Jaipur.

With international commitments clashing with the remainder of the tournament, questions also remain about overseas player availability. It is yet to be seen how the BCCI will balance logistical challenges while ensuring that Gavaskar’s plea is considered.
