President Droupadi Murmu was briefed on the success of Operation Sindoor by the top leadership of the Indian Armed Forces at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, provided a detailed overview of the operation, which was launched in response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 7, targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), neutralising over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operation was described as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” avoiding civilian and military infrastructure while delivering a decisive blow to terror hubs. President Murmu praised the Armed Forces for their valour and dedication, noting that their efforts made India’s response to terrorism a “sterling success.”

The briefing highlighted the tri-services synergy, with the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy executing precise strikes using advanced technologies like Pechora missiles, SAMAR systems, and air defence guns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had earlier briefed the President on May 7, described Operation Sindoor as setting a “new normal” in counter-terrorism, emphasising that India will not tolerate nuclear blackmail and will strike decisively at terrorist hideouts.

The operation followed Pakistan’s retaliatory drone and missile attacks on May 8-9, which were repelled by India’s robust air defence systems, neutralising over 50 drones across a 1,800-km stretch. Despite a ceasefire agreement on May 10, Pakistan violated it with cross-border shelling, prompting India to maintain a vigilant stance. The Armed Forces’ technological superiority in domains like space, cyber, and electronic warfare was also showcased, underscoring India’s growing military prowess.

President Murmu’s commendation reflects national pride in the Armed Forces’ swift and effective response, reinforcing India’s resolve to combat terrorism with precision and strength.
