A viral WhatsApp message claiming that ATMs across India would remain closed for 2–3 days has been officially debunked by the Press Information Bureau (PIB India).

In a statement released on social media, PIB clarified that this message is completely false and urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified information.

Are ATMs closed⁉️

A viral #WhatsApp message claims ATMs will be closed for 2–3 days.

🛑 This Message is FAKE

✅ ATMs will continue to operate as usual#IndiaFightsPropaganda #OperationSindoor https://t.co/Uca59itgFv

— PIB India (@PIB_India) May 9, 2025

The misinformation gained traction after widespread concerns regarding recent geopolitical developments. However, PIB India reassured the public that banking services, including ATM operations, remain fully functional across the country.

Additionally, PIB Fact Check issued an advisory warning against the spread of fake news, emphasising the importance of verifying information from official sources. Citizens have been encouraged to report misleading claims through the Government of India’s official fact-checking channels.

Misinformation surrounding financial services can cause unnecessary panic, and officials are actively working to curb such misleading narratives.
