NCW Condemns Trolling of Pahalgam Martyr’s Widow for Peace Appeal

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly condemned the online trolling of Himanshi Narwal, widow of Indian Navy officer Lt Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Himanshi, who had just married Vinay a week before the attack, made an emotional appeal for peace, urging people not to spread hate against Muslims or Kashmiris in the wake of the tragedy. “We want peace and only peace,” she said.

Her compassionate message, however, was met with online abuse and targeted trolling. In response, NCW called the attacks “reprehensible and unfortunate,” stating that ideological expression should never invite harassment, especially during a time of personal grief.

“No woman should be trolled for expressing her beliefs or for her personal life choices,” the NCW said on X (formerly Twitter), reaffirming its commitment to upholding the dignity and respect of every woman.

The commission also expressed sorrow over the terror attack that left 26 people dead, noting that Lt Narwal was reportedly shot after being asked about his religion. “The whole nation is in mourning and stands united against terrorism,” it added.
