As part of the prestigious WAVES Summit 2025, a high-level roundtable on ‘OTT & Digital-Driven Democratisation of Content Creation and Consumption’ was hosted at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.

Curated by Primus Partners, AWS, and Rolling Stone India, the event brought together over 100 influential figures from cinema, technology, policy, and venture capital, aiming to shape the next phase of India’s digital entertainment economy.

The session commenced with the release of the report Press Play – India’s OTT Story Goes Global, unveiled by Shri Ashish Shelar, Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Heritage & IT, Government of Maharashtra. The report, jointly authored by AWS, Primus Partners, and Rolling Stone India, highlights India’s growing influence in the global OTT landscape. Shri Shelar emphasised that OTT platforms now extend beyond entertainment to include gaming, immersive content, and education, reaffirming Maharashtra’s role as a launchpad for digital transformation.

The roundtable featured three key discussions:

  • Public–Private Collaborations & Hyper-Localisation of Content
  • Scaling Indian Media Content for Global Markets & Monetisation Models
  • Role of Emerging Technologies & AVGC in OTT

Speakers explored India’s potential as a global storytelling hub through hybrid monetisation, co-productions, and digital-led internationalisation of content. AI, AR/VR, cloud, gaming, and immersive media were highlighted as transformative forces in content creation, distribution, and monetisation, particularly in India’s AVGC sector.

A major announcement from the event was the signing of a strategic MoU between the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Creativeland Asia to establish Creatorland, India’s first transmedia entertainment city. The initiative is projected to attract Rs 8,000–10,000 crore in investment, create over 150,000 jobs, and skill 10,000 youth annually.

Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, delivered a keynote address, tracing the legacy of Indian storytelling from radio to television and now to digital platforms. He emphasised that WAVES OTT is not just an entertainment platform but an instrument of empowerment, enabling creators from every corner of India to share their stories globally.

The WAVES Summit 2025 roundtable has reinforced India’s ambition to lead the world in democratised, tech-enabled storytelling, fostering new narratives, cross-sectoral partnerships, and digital innovation.
