In the aftermath of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives including that of Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, his wife Himanshi Narwal has made a heartfelt appeal for peace and unity.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Himanshi said, “We do not want people going against Muslims or Kashmiris. We want peace and only peace.” She emphasized the family’s desire for justice and accountability for those responsible for her husband’s death, but firmly urged against communal backlash.

The terror attack, which occurred on April 22 in the Baisaran area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, targeted tourists. According to police, the attackers asked victims their names to identify their religion before opening fire. Of the 26 killed, 23 were Hindu.

Since the attack, incidents of communal violence and intimidation against Muslims have been reported in various states including Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Amid rising concerns, the People’s Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR), a civil rights organization, issued a public statement on Tuesday. The group expressed deep alarm over “unchecked Islamophobia,” and called on educational institutions across India to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students.

The PUDR also condemned the harassment of students and the broader violation of civil liberties following the incident, urging authorities to maintain peace and uphold constitutional values during this tense period.
