Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the Odisha State Roundtable at India Steel 2025, organised by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, in collaboration with FICCI.

The session, held on April 25, 2025, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, showcased Odisha’s steel capabilities and future vision under the theme of “Samruddha Odisha.”

During the State Roundtable, discussions focused on expanding steel production and ensuring a reliable raw material supply. The Chief Minister presented Odisha’s strategic advantages in the steel and metals sector to an audience of industry leaders. In his keynote address, he reaffirmed Odisha’s status as the Steel Capital of India and emphasised the state’s role in supporting the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

CM Majhi highlighted that steel is the backbone of Odisha’s economy and pointed out that the state is the largest producer of iron ore in India, contributing over 55% of the nation’s total iron ore output. To promote the growth of the steel and allied sectors in Odisha, the government has implemented various initiatives, including forming a high-level task force made up of top officials to facilitate the smooth commissioning and operation of industries within the state. This includes securing raw materials, providing encumbrance-free land, ensuring connectivity through roadways and railways, and supplying necessary utilities like electricity and water to meet the specific needs of every industry in this essential sector.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the Government of Odisha aims to develop a comprehensive metal-based manufacturing value chain, from raw materials to high-end engineering products. He announced that Odisha’s Vision 2036 for Industrial Development outlines an ambitious roadmap focused on strengthening both upstream and downstream linkages, promoting engineering goods, mining machinery, transport systems, and defence and aerospace components.

The event attracted over 200 delegates from steel sector industries based in Mumbai. Industry leaders from major firms, including Tata Steel, AMNS, JSW, JSL, and SAIL, shared their insights and growth plans for Odisha. Senior officials from other significant companies like Kalyani Steel, Shyam Steel, Shree Metaliks, Calderys India, and Sarvesh Refractories also participated, discussing opportunities for industrial growth in Odisha in the coming years.

The session was honored by the presence of H.E. Mr. Bobylev Petr, Director of Coal Industry Development, Ministry of Energy, Russian Federation, and Mr. Artem Ukolov, Head of the Oil and Gas Department, Russian Trade Commission, who had a one-on-one meeting with the Chief Minister to explore potential collaboration between the two governments.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also engaged strategically with industry stakeholders in other sectors, including:

  • Indian Chemical Council (ICC): The premier industry association representing the chemical sector in India. Senior representatives from leading chemical companies, including Dow Chemicals, Epsilon Carbon, Kothari Petrochemicals, and Deepak Fertilisers, discussed their potential investments and expansion plans.
  • Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA): The leading national organisation for Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers. Shri Bharath Shah, CMD of S Kant Pharmaceuticals, represented the association and discussed opportunities for developing the drug manufacturing sector in Odisha.

The Chief Minister’s visit marks a significant milestone in Odisha’s proactive outreach strategy under the vision of “Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha.”
