Alexander Zverev marked his 28th birthday with a stellar performance at the BMW Open by Bitpanda, claiming his third title at the prestigious event.
The home favourite overpowered American Ben Shelton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to secure his 24th ATP tour-level trophy.
Zverev’s victory was defined by his flawless serving, as he did not face a single break point throughout the match. The win not only solidified his dominance on home soil but also matched fellow German Philipp Kohlschreiber’s record of three titles at the tournament.

Playing in front of an electrified Munich crowd, Zverev dictated the tempo from the start. Shelton, competing in his first high-level clay final, struggled with double faults and was unable to disrupt Zverev’s momentum. The German maintained composure and executed his game plan flawlessly, earning his first title of the 2025 season.
With this triumph, Zverev moves closer to reclaiming the World No. 2 ranking, depending on the outcome of the Barcelona final.
Meanwhile, Shelton’s run to the final elevates him to No. 13 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, making him the first American to reach a clay court 500 finals since Andre Agassi’s 2002 Rome victory.
