The Supreme Court of India has raised three key concerns while hearing petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
The case, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna alongside Justices Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan, will continue on Thursday at 2 PM after the central government and some states sought more time before an interim order is passed.
The court highlighted major issues surrounding Waqf property disputes, including the validity of past decrees that declared certain properties as Waqf, the inclusion of non-Muslims in the Waqf Council, and an ongoing inquiry by collectors regarding disputed assets. Additionally, Chief Justice Khanna acknowledged concerns over the recent violence in West Bengal related to the amendments.
