Indian Olympians Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula have kicked off the ITTF World Cup 2025 with remarkable victories in their group-stage openers held in Macao, China, on Monday.

Demonstrating stellar form, Manika Batra, currently ranked World No. 30, dominated Maylis Giret of New Caledonia, achieving a sweeping 4-0 victory. Meanwhile, Sreeja Akula (World No. 34) displayed impressive gameplay, defeating Australia’s Constantina Psihogios in a thrilling 3-1 match.

Both players now face tougher challenges ahead, with Manika set to compete against World No. 23 Bruna Takahashi from Brazil, while Sreeja prepares to confront World No. 13 Bernadette Szocs of Romania in the upcoming matches. With the stakes high, India’s hopes rest on their shoulders as they represent the nation in the prestigious tournament.
