In a major boost to Maharashtra’s urban infrastructure and public transportation system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for mega Pune Metro projects valued at approximately Rs 21,800 crore.
The event will take place via video conferencing on 3rd November 2026 at 12:30 PM.
Launching the Pink Line: Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar
The highlight of the ceremony will be the official inauguration of Pune Metro Line 3, popularly known as the Pink Line. Built at a cost exceeding ₹8,300 crore, the 23-kilometre corridor connects Maan to the District Court Metro station.
By linking the Hinjewadi IT hub directly to Shivajinagar, the Pink Line is set to dramatically reduce traffic congestion, ease vehicular emissions, and provide a seamless, high-speed daily commute for thousands of IT professionals and city residents.
The Pink Line stands out for two groundbreaking initiatives:
-
Women-Led Operations: Demonstrating a commitment to gender inclusion and empowerment, the line will be operated entirely by women train operators.
-
Eco-Friendly Transit: Fostering environmental sustainability, nearly 30% of the energy needs for Line 3 will be supplied via solar power.
Expansion Plan: Pune Metro Phase-II
During the event, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Phase-II of the Pune Metro, estimated to cost around ₹13,500 crore. Phase-II encompasses four major corridors designed to integrate smoothly with the existing network and local intercity bus hubs:
| Line | Route / Coverage | Length |
| Line 2A | Vanaz to Chandani Chowk | Extension (~12.75 km combined with 2B) |
| Line 2B | Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi | Extension (~12.75 km combined with 2A) |
| Line 4 | Kharadi to Khadakwasla | ~25.52 km |
| Line 4A | Nal Stop to Manik Baug | ~6.12 km |
Key interchanges planned at Swargate, Nal Stop, and Kharadi Bypass will unite residential sectors, commercial zones, and IT precincts—including Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate, Nanded City, and Warje—into a unified, modern transit network.
