All India Students’ Association (AISA) National President Neha Bora on Friday, October 30, 2026, officially extended the student body’s support to the INDIA bloc’s upcoming “mega rally” at Ramlila Maidan, scheduled for Sunday, November 1.

The multi-party demonstration aims to demand the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, an immediate freeze on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and the repeal of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023.

Student Movement Backs Opposition Agitation

Addressing the press and releasing a video statement across social media platforms, Bora urged citizens, student groups, and civil society members to mobilize in large numbers to defend electoral integrity:

”Our demand to seek Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, impose a complete halt on the SIR exercise, and withdraw the 2023 law will culminate in a movement at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. I urge citizens to reach Ramlila Maidan to protect their voting rights and uphold the sanctity of democracy.”

The announcement follows a joint press conference held at the Press Club of India in New Delhi, where student organizations alleged that the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise risks disenfranchising eligible voters across key urban and rural demographics.

Growing Civil Society & Political Support

The opposition alliance’s demonstration has attracted backing from diverse civil society factions and independent political entities ahead of the Sunday gathering:

  • Key Demands: Resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, immediate halting of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, and legislative rollback of the 2023 Election Commission appointment law.
  • Broader Support: Student bodies and civil groups, alongside independent outfits such as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), have pledged participation in the rally.

With Delhi Police issuing conditional permission for the Ramlila Maidan gathering, thousands of political workers, student activists, and civil rights advocates are expected to converge in the national capital over the weekend.
