People across Odisha should prepare for a noticeable rise in temperatures, as the Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted a 2 to 3°C increase over the next 24 hours starting today.

The soaring mercury is expected to push temperatures close to or beyond 40°C, particularly in western Odisha, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Heatwave-like conditions are likely to grip several districts, especially in the interior and western parts of the state. However, southern Odisha may receive some relief thanks to pre-monsoon activity. Districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam are expected to witness rainfall and thunderstorms today, offering brief respite from the heat.

According to the Met Department, sporadic showers and thunderstorm activity are likely to continue until April 10, influenced by pre-monsoon systems and ongoing cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal. This weather system could lead to the formation of a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours, which may influence Odisha’s weather in the coming days.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, and keep an eye on weather updates, as conditions are expected to fluctuate throughout the week.
