Heavy torrential rains and fierce winds unleashed by Cyclone Arnab resulted in a devastating loss of life in Puri district, where a 40-year-old woman died following a sudden wall collapse in her village home.
The deceased has been identified as Lobhamati Muduli, a resident of Jenapur village under the Astaranga block.
The tragic event unfolded while Lobhamati was preparing meals in her kitchen. According to local sources, violent storm gusts uprooted a large tree situated next to the kitchen area. The falling tree smashed directly into the adjacent brick wall with intense force, causing the structure to cave in instantaneously and trapping Lobhamati beneath the heavy debris.
Family members and neighbours rushed to her rescue, extricating her from the rubble in critical condition. She was immediately rushed to Charichhak Hospital for emergency treatment. As her condition deteriorated rapidly, medical staff referred her to Capital Hospital, where attending doctors tragically declared her dead upon arrival.
The news of Lobhamati’s sudden demise has sent shockwaves through Jenapur village, casting a heavy pall of gloom over the entire region. Outraged and heartbroken community members have called on local authorities and the state government to provide swift financial compensation and emergency relief assistance to the grieving family.
