Transport networks across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh came to a near standstill on Wednesday morning following the landfall of Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab along the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coastal belt.
The powerful storm brought heavy rains and high-speed winds, prompting authorities to take swift precautionary measures. Rail and air operations across the region have been severely disrupted to ensure passenger safety.
Rail Networks Severely Impacted
According to railway officials, more than 50 train services running through Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have been completely cancelled. Both East Coast Railway (ECoR) and South Coast Railway have announced cancellations, short-terminations, and route diversions for numerous express and local passenger services.
Major hubs including Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam are experiencing significant backlogs as rail operators work to secure tracks and overhead equipment from storm damage.
Air Travel Grounded Across Coastal Airports
Flight operations at key coastal airports—including Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry—faced major disruptions. Major commercial carriers, including Air India and IndiGo, cancelled multiple flights bound for or departing from the region.
Airport authorities advised passengers not to travel to the terminals without prior confirmation of their flight status from respective airlines.
Emergency management teams, alongside railway and aviation personnel, remain on high alert to assess track conditions, clear debris, and restore normal transport services as soon as weather conditions improve.
