The Odisha Under-14 boys’ rugby team delivered a remarkable performance at the 70th SGFI National Rugby Championship, securing the silver medal after a high-octane tournament held at the Thyagaraj Stadium in Delhi from October 23 to October 26.
Representing the state under the sponsorship of the Odisha State School Games Association—functioning under the School and Mass Education Department—the young squad showcased exceptional tactical discipline and athletic prowess throughout the multi-day competition.
Odisha finished as runners-up following a hard-fought final against a formidable Bihar side, concluding the match with a 10-2 scoreline.
Despite coming up short in the title clash, Odisha stood out as one of the most dominant sides in the national event. The team stormed into the final after executing a masterclass in the semifinals, dismantling host team Delhi with a decisive 15-1 victory.
Their semifinal triumph was built on tight defensive structures and swift, counter-attacking play that left the host side with few answers.
