The Jharsuguda district administration’s flagship ‘Snehasetu’ program has recorded another inspiring chapter by successfully reuniting a missing, mentally ill woman with her long-lost family.
The story unfolded on May 22, 2026, when the Jharsuguda Town Police rescued a 48-year-old mentally unwell woman named Devi, wandering near the Beheramal area. Recognising her vulnerable condition, police immediately transferred her to ‘Mission Ashra-1’ at H. Katapali for specialised medical treatment, personal care, and rehabilitation.
A Journey of Care and Tracing
During her stay at ‘Mission Ashra-1’, dedicated staff provided continuous medical treatment and emotional support. As her mental health gradually improved, social welfare officials launched a concerted effort to locate her roots.
The breakthrough came when officers from the Social Security Department collaborated with the Jharkhand State Police Control Room. Working together with local station officers, the team successfully identified her native address and established contact with her family. Overjoyed upon hearing the news, Devi’s daughter and relatives promptly travelled to Jharsuguda to bring her back home.
Handed Over in the Presence of the District Collector
The formal handing-over ceremony took place in the presence of District Collector Shri Kunal Motiram Chavan, who personally greeted the family and praised the tireless efforts of the rehabilitation team.
